Why MS-65 Saints May Be the Smartest Way to Own Gold

Nearly an ounce of gold. An American masterpiece. A certified gem-quality coin with two potential engines of value.

An investor considering a substantial physical-gold allocation should compare ordinary bullion with the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle in MS-65. Each regular-issue Saint contains approximately 0.9675 troy ounce of gold, but it is also one of the most celebrated designs in American coinage.

MS-65 means Mint State gem quality, but the holder is the beginning of diligence—not the end. Two coins with the same grade can differ in luster, color, marks and overall presence. Buy the coin, use the certification as evidence, and insist on disciplined selection.

The strategic question is premium. When the additional cost over the underlying gold is reasonable, the buyer may gain history, beauty, certification and potential collector demand without surrendering the fundamental gold thesis. The premium can expand or contract, and no price forecast is guaranteed.

Before buying, compare live quotations, spreads, storage, insurance, liquidity and the probable route back to cash. The best acquisition strategy begins with the exit.
